Czech History Harvest seeks student volunteers

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln History Harvest project, along with the Nebraska State Historical Society, will host its third History Harvest on Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Wilber Cultural Center in downtown Wilber, NE.

The History Harvest at UNL is an innovative project that will bring together history students with the Czech community in Nebraska to make historical sources that are currently in people’s attics, basements, and closets available for teachers and scholars. History Harvest participants will be able to share stories behind their artifacts and share their personal stories about Czech Nebraska’s past. Anyone with materials that can add to Nebraska’s Czech history is invited to participate in this free event. Please bring materials that include, but are not limited to, diaries, photographs, letters, maps, images, war memorabilia, and other family/cultural heirlooms. During the event, students will not keep the treasured items; instead, they will digitally document them with community help. Following the harvest, the students working on the project will digitize the Czech Nebraska history materials and make them available in a shared web-based archive for schools, universities, and interested citizens. On the day of the event, there will be street parking available.

For more information about the History Harvest, contact the Department of History and Czech Program, University of Nebraska-Lincoln or email Jacob K. Friefeld at jkfriefeld@huskers.unl.edu or Hana Waisserova at hwaisserova2@unl.edu.
