Descendants and researchers of Germans from Russia are poised to enrich their understanding and forge new connections at the 55th Annual American Historical Society of Germans from Russia (AHSGR) Convention, set to take place in Lincoln, Nebraska, from July 30th to August 1st, 2025.
A roster of over 25 distinguished speakers from across the globe will present new research and insights not previously presented elsewhere. The banquet speaker on August 1st will be Dr. Mark Louden, the Alfred L. Shoemaker and J. William Frey, and Don Yoder Professor of Germanic Linguistics and Director of the Max Kade Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Louden will discuss Germans from Russia and Diversity in German America.

To register for the convention and to learn more about the speakers, please visit the AHSGR website (https://ahsgr.org). The convention will be held at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Lincoln. Room reservations can be made by contacting the hotel. The Embassy Suites hotel is only four minutes from the AHSGR Heritage Center, which holds our research library, indoor exhibits, and historical outbuilding tours. The AHSGR Heritage Center will be open throughout the convention and on Saturday, August 2. A shuttle bus will be available to transport convention attendees between the Embassy Suites hotel and the AHSGR Heritage Center.

Journey to Freedom -- Uncovering the Grayson Sisters' Escape from Nebraska Territory
With Gail Shaffer Blankenau who is a professional genealogist, historian, speaker, and author. She holds an MA degree in history from the University of Nebraska–Kearney and in 2023 she received the James L. Sellers prize for her article about the Grayson sisters in a volume of Nebraska History magazine. Blankenau is from Nebraska and currently lives in Lincoln.
